24 (twentyfour) Day 7: 12:00 AM – 1:00 AM

24-717A kinder gentler 24.

At least that’s what it feels like.  This episode features no torture at all.  Sure, a guy gets bludgeoned to death and tossed off a balcony.  But for an entire 60 minutes to pass in the life of Jack Bauer without him toruring someone or one of his friends getting tortured, this is really stunning.

Maybe Jack’s torturing himself over his estranged relationship with his daughter.  He certainly seems to be punishing himself over it when he refuses to ask her for a life-saving medical donation because he doesn’t talk to her anymore.

My money’s on Renee contacting Kim for him, but only if the producers were smart enough to sneak a clause in Elisha Cuthbert’s contract requiring her to come back to do a cameo someday.  Otherwise Jack will have to find another way out of this.

The neuro-toxin was said to take 48 hours to kill.  So maybe next season will pick up one minute after this one and we can watch Jack become delerious and delusional as he runs around trying to focus enough to kill just the right people.

If they’re truly ballsy, they’ll have the toxin hit part of the population and play up the derangement effect, ending the season with a live zombie scenario.  I’m not putting any money on that though.

It’s interesting that we haven’t seen Jack in action for two whole episodes now.  I like watching Tony get some time in the spotlight.  And the suspense works better with Tony.  You know Jack won’t die, at least not until 8:00am.  But Tony could bite it at any time.  He’s already died before after all.

It was nice to see Agent Moss really in the field too.  He’s gotten out of the office before, but always to wait outside or arrive too late for the most part.
